Internship Accomplishments

Area 2: Plan Health Education Strategies, Interventions, and Programs

Competency A: Involve people and organizations in program planning

Sub-competency 2: Elicit input from those who will affect or be affected by the program

Sub-competency 3: Obtain commitments from individuals who will be involved

Attended two Suicide Prevention Workgroup meetings with Meghann, an Active Living Coalition meeting in Moose Lake, and a Moose Lake PTA meeting regarding a healthy open house meal.

Attended meetings for the Wellness Committee at Carlton County and
participated in two NE MN SHIP Core Team teleconferences.


Area 3: Implement Health Education Strategies, Interventions, and Programs

Competency B: Demonstrate a variety of skills in delivering strategies, interventions, and
programs

Sub-competency 2: Apply implementation strategies

Helped with construction of the Esko school garden: Accompanied Joanne to a meeting with Pat at Mac’s Landscaping to plan for the patio. Measured bricks, helped create the foundation for the patio, unloaded pavers, communicated with Mac’s via phone, and planned patio design. Leveled ground surrounding the patio; measured, dug out, and leveled beds.




Area 4: Conduct Evaluation and Research Related to Health Education

Competency C: Design data collection instruments

Sub-competency 1: Develop valid and reliable evaluation instruments

Modified the M.O.V.E. Camp evaluation form to measure current activities.

Competency E: Interpret results from evaluation and research

Sub-competency 1: Analyze evaluation data

Compiled results from the evaluation survey of the Healthy Snack Cart pilot at Moose Lake school.


Area 5: Administer Health Education Strategies, Interventions, and Programs

Competency A: Exercise organizational leadership

Sub-Competency 1: Conduct strategic planning

Created lesson plans for M.O.V.E. Camp activities.


Gathered necessary supplies for M.O.V.E. Camps and discussed logistics. Modified registration sheets and name tags for Moose Lake and Barnum M.O.V.E. Camps and printed necessary documents.

Accompanied Joanne to Mac’s Landscaping Center to learn the process for creating the patio and gardens at Esko school. Planned garden layout and concrete paver design for Esko school.

Communicated via email and met in person with the Program Coordinator at the Carton County jail to plan women’s jail health presentations.

Communicated with supervisors regarding internship duties and upcoming events. Coordinated with other agency members via email.

Called Hammarlund Nursery to order trees and dirt for Esko garden and plan delivery.

Replied to various emails.

Competency B: Secure fiscal resources

Listened to a phone meeting regarding justification for a grant.


Area 6: Serve as a Health Education Resource Person

Sub-competency 1: Identify information sources needed to satisfy a request

Chose smoothie recipes for a Wellness Committee event.

Researched and contacted area massage therapy schools via phone for the Wellness Committee.

Competency C: Select resource materials for dissemination

Sub-competency 3: Assemble educational material of value to the health of individuals and
community groups

Gathered data and created a presentation regarding alcohol and tobacco for women at the Carlton County jail.

Gathered data and created a presentation about diabetes for women at the Carlton County jail.


Gathered data and created a presentation for about heart disease and stroke for women at the Carlton County jail about diabetes.


Revised and reformatted activities for M.O.V.E Camp and organized materials into a binder for documentation and future use. Documented Wellness Bingo information in office records.

Accompanied Meghann and listened to her QPR training presentation to Kiwanis in Moose Lake.

Accompanied Meghann and listened to her present at the DWI Clinic.

Accompanied Joanne on two housing inspections and went with Meghann to observe a "garbage house".

Shadowed public health nurses on four home visits: three prenatal and one postpartum.

Shadowed nurses for a morning at the Carlton County jail.

Attended a Team Building Conference.

Accompanied Meghann and listened to her QPR training presentation to Kiwanis in Moose Lake.

Led M.O.V.E. Camp activities, ironed transfers on t-shirts, and organized camp supplies.


Created three print resource handouts for the alcohol and tobacco presentation. Gave the presentation at the jail.

Created a handout and quiz using Microsoft Publisher for part of my diabetes presentation and gave the presentation at the Carlton County jail.


Prepared print resources and visual aids for heart disease and stroke presentation. Researched appropriate videos online to accompany the presentation; gave presentation at the Carlton County jail.

Represented Carlton County Public Health and distrubuted information regarding affordable health care and insurance at the following events:

1) SAPPI Health Fair
2) Fon du Lac school
3) Dond du Lac Baby Showerf

Attended a “Social Media Impacts” webinar


Accompanied Meghann toa Cloquet food shelf to distribute information regarding affordable health care and insurance.

Communicated weekly with Carlton County employees via email to explain and promote the Wellness Bingo Challenge during the month of June. Held a prize drawing at the end of the month.

Attended a Carlton County Public Health unit meeting.


Laminated and cut posters promoting Moose Lake as a Fit City.

Communicated via phone with massage therapy departments at local college

Prepared seven mailings.

Read and replied to various emails, including inquiring with the CAT7 contact about airing a PSA, communicating with the Carlton County ail program coordinator, and providing information regarding smoothie recipes and area schools with massage therapy programs for the Wellness Committee.

Created this blog to document accomplishments for internship final project.


Other

Completed agency orientation, including technology and HIPPA training.

Attended all-staff meeting, including a presentation on Emergency Preparedness in Haiti.

Organized health education supplies in store room and created an inventory to identify supplies for M.O.V.E. Camps.

Helped organize health education documents and supplies in store room.
